Understanding connection problems with bluetooth and smart devices

Are you having issues connecting to your Blunami decoder using the Blunami app? If so, here are some things you should know:

First and foremost, make sure your device (iOS or Android) is updated to the lastest version supported. Make sure bluetooth is turned “on” in all your smart devices.

If you cannot connect to a Blunami board, there are 4 possible reasons:

1) Board is connected to app running on another smart device
2) Issue with the bluetooth module in the board
3) Issue with smart device
4) Interference/installation/range issue

Let’s set aside number 4 right now – it is less common.

A good way to see if a Blunami board is putting out a bluetooth signal is to try various devices. Borrow any devices you can (iOS and Android), install the free Blunami app, and try to connect. If you are unable to connect to your board with 4 different devices, there is a strong chance the board is not putting out a bluetooth signal.

You can also test whether your smart device can see and connect to any bluetooth device using a free Bluetooth sniffer app like Light Blue. Power up you Blunami. Make sure your board is not already connected to the Blunami app running on any device in range. See if your Blunami board appears available within the sniffer app. Connect and interrogate your board. If Light Blue can stably connect to your board, then the Blunami app should be able to as well.
